The Aurora Tapes

An album launch site that earned 4:32 of average attention.

Challenge

Make a page that holds attention for the length of a track.

The marketing benchmark for album sites is ~30 seconds. Lumen wanted ten minutes. The problem was less design and more cinematography.

Approach

Treat the page as a timeline, not a document.

Aurora drove the motion. Every scene had a soft attack and a long decay, choreographed to the album's pacing. Surfaces shifted with each chapter, never jolting.

Solution

One sticky-scrub scene per track.

Track-titles materialised from grain. Cover art breathed in time with the bpm. No autoplay — sound was opt-in via a single floating chip that travelled with the listener.

Results

4:32 median session — 9× the benchmark.
